Oh, how lovely Monday is! (Not)
I was so dreading going to school today. As always, that 5:45am alarm went off way too soon and my usual 3 minute shower lasted more like 15, something that is way out of character for me. I was so sluggish in my getting ready but yet managed to make it to school right at the tick-tock of 7am. I found my room in unusual fasion--clean. I suppose the ganitors had a hay-day with the long weekend break and swept, mopped and shined my floor. That look didn't last long, though...by the end of 2nd period I was back to looking at crap all over the floor.
I had a student who left for Hawaii on the 16th. She came to me prior to leaving and asked for the work she'd miss. I told her that there was no way I could get everything to her because I, myself, don't know what I'm doing until the day before. So, I had to think quick. I wrote her a little letter, explaining how jealous I was that she would be in Hawaii while I was back here freezing to death. I figured that since the current unit is multi-cultureal of nature, I would have her do a little report on Hawaii and the culture. I explained what I wanted and gave her the note. She came back today and handed me a beautifully put together report. She said that it was the most fun assignment she'd ever done and that she had to cut down her 6 page report to the assigned 1 1/2. I kill myself now because I left it at school and didn't read it, but I'm pleased with her reaction. She's a good student and I am sure she put in a lot of time to get the report done.
I finally BLEW UP today in 7th period. I feel quite proud of myself. I have kind of a timid demeanor but I'd finally had the last nerve broken. I have two students who love to talk back and forth across the room and get up whenever they please, etc. I was explaining something and they carried on with their shinanigans and I finally had had enough and shouted: SIT DOWN. SHUT YOUR MOUTHS. GET TO WORK. The whole class probably peed their pants. They were scared. I didn't hear a peep the rest of the period. It was bliss.
I am looking forward to my conference on Thursday. I get a day off of the little munchkins. I started typing up the sub plans today, which is a lot harder than it sounds. Hopefully it'll all go well. Here's hoping that this week goes fast!!
