stupid sub

A few days since my last post, or, ok, so maybe more like a few weeks. Some big, non-teaching related news: I'm a homeowner! YaY! Ben and I moved into our house over Christmas break, thus the reason why I have not had the internet to post. We finally got the cable company to come out yesterday and hook us up, so here I am!!! Another bit of news is that we've added a new member to our family in the form of an AmStaff bull terrior puppy. Zeus was my Christmas present from Ben. I love this little guy; I know he loves me because he follows me everywhere. I will post some pics of the house and the puppy soon.

I've been back to school for two weeks and lots has happened...I just don't remember most of it.

Yesterday I had a workshop in Ogden. I carpooled up with another teacher from the school and had a really good time. The workshop was for AVID and since it was held in a hotel restraunt, they fed us this wicked yummy lunch, which we had 1 whole hour to eat! (School lunch only lasts 35 minutes). I left detailed notes for the sub, who I called personally to be there, and after the workshop, came back to school to see what damage had been done in my room.

Here's the problem with my sub:
1. I left the notes, but according to all my classes, he never said one word about what they were to be doing...which I believe because they didn't get any of it done!
2. My students have been working on lap tops in my room, doing research for a culture project they're working on. I told the sub to plug them in after each period...I walked into my room after the workshop yesterday and saw about 15 computers just sitting on random desks.
3. The sub failed to take attendance, even though I highlighted that part of my notes for him. I had one smart class who took attendance themselves when, as they told me, Mr. Sub slept at my desk!!
4. There was a broken chair. Yes. Someone busted one of the metal bars off the chair and it was lying, dead, in the middle of the floor.
5. The sub did not even leave me a note to tell me how the day was (I guess sleep was more important than actually paying attention), he ate ALL my candy in the little jar on my desk, and left the blanket that I leave on my chair on the floor!

Now we're a day behind on the intended outline. The quarter ends next Thursday, and I'm trying to teach them how to put together a PowerPoint. They were happy to see me today, which made me feel sell.

Friday is group picture day for the yearbook. I've had a headache about it all day because I had to put together a schedule for teachers and groups. I'd just get it done and one other teacher would notify about their group, or say they want to add their group. Finally, at 4:00 when I had the third version out and in the teacher's boxes, I said it's as good as it's gonna get, I'm outta here.

Next week we have Monday off, due to Civil Rights day AND Friday off due to the end of the term. What a wonderful 3 day week it will be!!
