What a day! Or, is it, What a day?
My day started out really swell; I wore a new shirt and my hair even looked good this morning when I left for school.
We had the talent show assembly this morning. It was just like any other junior high talent show-loud drum solos, out of tune singing duets, and hip grinding, blush-inducing dancing. I took my camera and took a few pictures that would help with yearbook pages, but mostly what I left with was a huge headache caused from the loud, throbbing music!
After the assembly, we headed back to Advisory. This is usually when they watch channel one and MTV, but today they didn't show it, which equals time for the students to goof off. This is how sick 13 year old boys can be when bored: I had a group of 7 boys sitting in the back, near computers. Two of these boys decided it would be funny to pick their noses, put the boogers on their front teeth, and lick them off and eat them. Yum. Well, they did this a couple times before I noticed anything. I finally noticed because several of the other boys watching began dry heaving. I sent one of them to the bathroom because I thought for sure he'd throw up (he did). I walked back there to "hang" out with them, just too see if the booger issue was under raps. After a few minutes, I walked back to my desk and I hear someone saying, "Mrs. Hubert, they're ruining your computers." I turned and walked to the computers along the back wall and these little brats had taken gum and stuck the gum inside the mouse, where the ball goes. UGH. There went computer privileges for a while. I was so irritated. No one fessed up to the crime, though I have a fairly good idea of who did it. And either way, I have no proof, so I don't know what I'd do even if someone said anything. If you were to walk into my room right now, you'd see a big white poster over a few computers which reads: "Sorry! No computers for, like, 1 week. Don't even DARE to sit in the chairs! Thanks oodles! luv ya! Mrs. Hubert."
The principal came into my room this afternoon to talk about a few things. First, he explained the survey that I need to fill out. Enclosed in the survey packet was a check for $25. Just for taking 10 minutes to fill it out, they pay me! Sweet! Then, he told me he'd be in sometime next week to observe me, the 2nd one of the year. The last one went pretty good, so I'm not too worried. He asked about yearbook and told me that he appreciates all that I do. It was a nice little conversation that boosted my mood.
Today I had my students work on writing a study guide for their Night test, which is on Monday. I told them that anything they wrote on one piece of computer paper could be used on the test. I maybe had 4 or 5 in each class that actually took me up on the offer. I was shocked! I keep envisioning Monday...I'll say, "Get out your notes for the test!" and the majority of the students will say, "What? Notes?" and then everyone will fail! I've been working on a Night Jeopardy game that we will play tomorrow, but I'm not quite sure what the outcome of the test will be.
I've had about 3 students out this week with pink eye. I've been Nazi strict with the sanitizing wipes and hand cleanser...I don't want to get sick!! The worst is when I can tell a student is actually sick but their parents won't let them stay home. Yuck. I pray I can make it the rest of the year without getting sick. I'm off to bed to get my beauty rest. I'm uber happy that tomorrow is Friday!
