end of spring break..almost

I'm less than 24 hours away from not being on Spring Break anymore. I've just spent the morning preparing lessons for this week. I have to admit, the break has been more than enjoyable but I am ready to get back to school and finish up the year.

I've had a lovely break. Lots of rest. Lots of hanging out with my husband who I rarely see during the school week. I think that tomorrow, Tuesday, when I return to school there will be about 38 days of school left. Wow.

Last Thursday, the first day of Spring Break, we took Ben's little cousins, Savannah, Jacob, and Jackson to the Hoggle Zoo. It was crowded but we all enjoyed a good time. Savannah, who is just 4, kept telling Ben that she was so hungry that he better buy her some cotton candy. Here is a little picture of Ben and the cousins sitting in front of the big bronze gorilla:

Friday was also a fun-filled day of Spring Break. A while back I won tickets to Jay Leno on KSL.com. He was in Wendover on Friday doing his stand up act. Ben's parents went to Wendover a bit ago and got one free nights stay at the Peppermil because the night they stayed there the fire alarm kept going off. So, the four of us made a little trip out of the deal and drove to Wendover Friday evening. Ben and I attending the Jay Leno gig while mom and dad Hubert went to see a movie. We got there just in time to eat at the buffet before the show...we had to eat fast! Jay Leno was funny! He was on stage for about 2 hours and talked about everything from Politics (Many a Dick Cheney shooting jokes involved) to his old Italian parents (who, apparently, don't know how to work a VCR and call Jay each time they need help.) My favorite part of his gig, however, was when he talked about 8th grade teachers. He was talking to members in the audience, asking what their occupations were. One lady said that she was a kindergarten teacher (my applause to her) and Jay said, "That's a good grade to teach. You know the hardest grade to teach is 8th grade. It's trying to teach turkey's algebra." He then continued to act out a scene from an 8th grade math class, which was really very funny, and is not something I can recreate here...sound effects and all. I laughed till I cried! Saturday morning after eating at the buffet again, we drove home. It was a fun little getaway.

The rest of my Spring Break has been quite low key. You see, I've been a little under the weather with a cold that my mom gave me before she left town. How nice. But, I can't complain because I've enjoyed being home and just vegging. I've cleaned the house, weeded the little flower patch in the front yard, and eaten alot of food, good and bad. It will be nice to get back to school and get back in the grind of things.

Did I mention the yearbook is all done? Yeah, it is and now I have no idea what to do with my journalism kids for the rest of the year. Just one more paper to go. I knew I had to come up with some sort of final project so I assigned their 4th quarter final project last week: to create a tv or radio station from scratch. I'm not even quite sure what the assignment will end up being, but I think what I've come up with so far will be fun for them. We'll see.

Well, now that I'm done writing lessons for the week, I believe I will go enjoy the remainder of my break by reading in bed next to my sleeping husband and puppy. Ciao.
