I have a gigantic cold sore on my nose, of all places. It arrived yesterday just after getting out of the shower. My nose hurts like crazy and the cold sore (again, of all places, on the NOSE!!??) has blossomed and now has it's own heart beat. It's yellow and crusty and itchy and....well, while dwell on any more yicky details?
I bought some over the counter cold sore cream last night at Wal*Mart. It only helps it from itching so bad; I can still feel the heartbeat. Today I covered it with a little powder (the directions on the cream said it was OK) and it hid the Red-as-Rudolph's-nose sore until about 4th period. At this point I started hearing things like: "Why is your nose red, Mrs. Hubert?" "Your nose is frostbit, Mrs. Hubert." "What is that growth with a heartbeat on your nose, Mrs. Hubert?!?!" and the like.
I just got home and inspected the growing sore. All I can say is that I'm glad I don't have to look at myself all day. I get cold sores frequently, but never before have I had them on my NOSE! I'm going to place a warm washcloth on it in a few (an old trick I learned) and see if it helps at all.
Yesterday's return to work was good, considering. The kids were SUPER tired and actually kind of quiet. I had 2 students fall asleep in 3rd period and one fall asleep in 7th. Several told me they had stayed up way late on Tuesday night.
My lesson plan of writing New Year's resolutions was a great and simple way to get them back into the school thing. Many of their resolutions were things like:
-I resolve to avoid my mom and sister more. (I wonder what the background is on this kid...)
-I resolve to not hit my brother.
-I resolve to master a skate trick.
-I resolve to look in the mirror more. (seriously!)
-I resolve to eat less junk food.
-I resolve to be a little bit nicer to Mrs. Hubert.
I got a good laugh whilst reading the resolutions.
Today we were on PM assembly schedule, so the class periods were shortened. I was teaching the 8th graders the difference between Primary and Secondary sources for research purposes. I 'lectured' for a few minutes and then they got into groups. Each group had a packet of 12 different documents. They had to decide if the document was a primary or secondary source. It was a good lesson for a day like today.
The assembly was of the "motivational" nature. It was meant to inspire teens to chart a positive course in their life. I talked to my friend AVK after and we agreed that at this age the assembly probably didn't do much and was probably more of a laugh than anything. It's scientifically proven that teenagers this age have very few tender and sensitive receptors in their brains. (Ok, so maybe this really isn't scientifically proven, but in my opinion it could be true). It was a fun assembly because they played loud raucous music that the kids liked, but they didn't really understand or "get" the message.
It is crazy to realize that tomorrow is Friday. Yay for 3 day work weeks! I have loads of Primary stuff to work on and a kitchen to clean, but I'm also hoping to finally get back to organizing my office. I tore it all apart on Monday and haven't got around to putting it back together.

Are you sure it's a cold sore? I thought those came from moisture etc in your mouth. Better have Nurse Susan take a look at it.
Glad your back to school is going OK--I hope your students stay at least a little motivated to be good students, or at least not hellions.
PS, if you read this soon, DO NOT watch Celebrity Apprentice.
You make me laugh. Hope your nose sore gets better!
As much as I hate Christmas being over, I love getting things in order during the month of January. I get the bug to de-clutter my entire place. It's a feeling that doesn't last long, but it sure makes me happy!
