mrs. hubert, guitar hero

I am a true Guitar Hero. Unfortunately the student who I trusted with the camera to take pictures and video didn't do a super job and the above picture is the best we got. My stellar Pat Benatar costume consisted of a tight red mini-skirt, black leggings with holes, super high black high heels, and my leather jacket. I also had my hair up in a high side ponytail with a headband on. (The man behind me was another teacher who dressed as Slash. He, too, rocked!)

My battle went first. When I walked on stage, the crowd went wild! I was to battle a 7th grade student on the easiest level. We got the song all set up and the 7th grade section started chanting: Mary, Mary, Mary! Then the rest of the school started chanting: Hubert, Hubert, Hubert! It was sweet. When the song started, it was soon apparent that my opponent had never picked up a guitar let alone Guitar Hero. Since it was on easy, it was SUPER easy (and slow!) I was jammin', the audience was cheering and singing along. I started feeling the groove and began dancing. I had star power quite a few times and I heard students yelling my name. When the song was over, I had won. I left stage and quickly went to change back into my regular clothes. When I got back in the auditorium, several students sitting close by complimented me on my skills. On my way back to my room after the assembly was over, even more students said, "You rocked, Mrs. Hubert!" A student from last year, who gave me the nick name of "Superstar" after I told him I was a high school basketball star, ran into me and said, "Now you really are a Superstar, seriously!"

It was a fun experience. I'm really glad I got out of my comfort zone and tried something new. Lots of teachers complimented me today at school saying they would never have guessed I could rock the way I did.

Today was a Student Non Attendance Day. We only had one meeting for all the teachers involved in the CRTs. We were allowed to work in our rooms (or, in my case, 'office') the rest of the time. I got quite a bit accomplished. Now just one quarter left to complete the year!

Tonight I am working on another paper. I collaborated with my friend who is also taking the same class. I did part of the work, she did the other part (the hard part! I owe her!), and I'm just going to work on making the final product "mine." Then, I will start studying for my big ESL test, which I take on Wednesday. Fun Friday, eh??
