hair's the thing

Well, as I suspected, my new haircut was the only thing my students wanted to talk about yesterday (and today). Among my own nervousness in actually doing my hair correctly (it's not all that complicated, I'm just not used to it yet), I was attacked with several crazy comments all day. Here is a random spattering:

* "Mrs. Hubert, you got your haircut?" (Well, obviously...why must you ask the question...clearly there are about 6 inches of hair that was there on Friday that isn't here today!)
* "Why'd you cut your hair?" (Hmm..wasn't aware that I needed your permission to do something different....)
* "You look older." (That was kind of one of my reasons for chopping my hair).
* "You look younger." (Weird!)
* "It's so short!" (yeah, well, 6 inches is half of a foot, right?)
And my most favorite (well, not so much after today...):
* "You look like Dora the Explorer. Where's Boots and Backpack?" (I laughed when I heard this first but now it's getting old because several students call me "Mrs. Dora" in the hall.)

The Haircut hasn't gone over too well at home, either. At first Ben said I looked like a 4 year old. Then he flat out said he hated it. And then he started calling me "short-haired wife." I think (I hope) it's growing on him a little bit.

Like most things I do with my hair, I didn't do it to please any one but me, but it is still kind of comical to hear other people's reactions.

I have a BIG 8 page paper to do this week for my reading class. Yum.

Don't let anyone tell you your hair isn't cute--I'm sure Cassidy will love that you look like Dora. Have fun doing the paper...better you than me.

I think your hair is adorable. I wish I was brave like you and would do different things with my hair.
