Today I spent 8 hours at a hotel by the SLC airport listening to a very bubbly and exhausting woman talk about the "hottest" young adult books of the year. It was pretty fascinating because I think I learned about over 100 great books. I also spent a few bucks on some of these awesome books and I'm looking forward to reading them (after, of course, I finish reading the stack of 6 other books I have on my shelf). I attended the conference with several other teachers and it was a nice change of scenery.
One of the ideas this lady offered was about keeping a book journal. (She also suggested having a book dedicated to "bathroom reading," where she claims you can average about 8 books/year just reading in the bathroom...I'm not sure I'll try this one...)I've tried to keep one of my own book journals updated on Shelfari.com. Also, today I got a friend request from my best pal, Katie, about another book journal website. I haven't had much luck keeping Shelfari updated and doubt I would do a good job with the other website shared by Katie (sorry, friend!) So I decided tonight that I know the sure-fire way that I'll be able to keep a book journal is by creating a blog entirely dedicated to the books that I read.
I enjoy giving book recommendations and feel like I really do read a lot of good books that don't get much exposure because there are SO many great books out there. It is fun to see what others read and it's also fun to be able to recommend a book to others and they really like what you recommend.
The book blog hasn't been created yet, but it's on my list of things to do this weekend (among other things like homework and more homework). I'll put a link on this blog and if my readers feel so inclined, they can check my book blog for some good ideas. Also, if readers have suggestions for me, please let me know!
