funny films

It was 5 degrees out this morning when I got in my car. I felt no shame walking out in my marshmellow puff parka, nerdy fleece hat, and child-like mittens. My normal five minute drive into school took about 15 minutes, and even though I drove primarily on a temporary ice skating rink, I made it there safe. Also, when I walked in, many of my students saw me and laughed because I was bundled up.

So tomorrow is the big conference and sub day. I spent a few extra hours in my room after school today preparing lesson plans and cleaning my room. I think my room is the cleanest it's been since the first day of school. I also spent about 10 minutes in each class basically warning my students to be on their best behavior for the sub. I told them the very worst of my sub stories and did my best acting job just so they get the idea that subbing is VERY hard and that they did not have my permission to treat the sub poorly. I made a deal with 5th period (my problem class) that if I have a good report from the sub, we'd have a movie day next week. (By the by, last week's doghnut party just about put Ben and I into the poor house--we spent just about $40!--I won't be doing that again anytime soon!) I have good feelings that my students will be well behaved, but just in case, I left the sub a huge stack of ASD (after school detention) slips. Kids hate these. I called into the sub computer system today and got the name of the sub who will be in my room...an older gentelman who subs at WLJH quite often. I think he's a retired teacher, so I'm also fairly confident having him in my room.

On my cleaning spree today I found the most disturbing things. Here's just a short list of what I had to pick up:
--Used sucker sticks
--3 wads of ABC gum (Already Been Chewed)
--DOG POOP!! (I didn't pick this up, my nose just followed the smell...someone apparently had some on their shoe and it was scraped off under the computer table!)
--A bloody bandaid
--Chewed shoe lace.

Yeah, I'm not kidding... at all.

I've been recieving a lot of forwarded e-mails lately from other teachers, students, and family. I normally don't like getting so many, but lately I've appreciated the e-mails, especially the ones that have links to on-line videos. Sometimes, when I have some time at the end of class, I tell my students I have some funny videos on my computer and a few come over to watch. They aren't really educational or anything, but students seem to really get a kick out of them. Here's a few links to some of my most favorite of the last week.
1. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1498712129486238738&q=scissors&hl=en
(WARNING! THIS IS NOT FOR THE SQUEMISH OR FAINT OF HEART!!!!!!!!!!!! ALSO, IF YOU ARE OPPOSED TO NAUGHTY LANGUAGE, TURN THE VOLUME DOWN (don't worry, I did when my students watched)
2. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4183967147021677751&hl=en
(I had a student who joked with me that he was going to pull this prank on me one day with snow. Good laugh)
3. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1787735185833886533&q=kissing+monkeys
(I still get a big squemish when I see this one)
4.http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-274981837129821058&q=genre%3Acomedy
(These guys have been on Dave Letterman, but I think it's just too cool! My students loved this one!)

No, really, I don't spend all day every day watching silly videos, I promise!!!

That's all for tonight!

Thanks for the 'happy birthday' on my blog (even though I'm a Packer fan ;) ). I've got a friend who is a first year teacher as well and she's got the greatest stories - I'm sure it's less fun living it, but at least it sounds like you've got a sense of humor about things like finding dog poo under desks!
