Spirit Week is finally over! It's always fun to do something different, such as wearing pajamas to school. But it's also fun when the craziness that is Spirit Week is over and school-life can return (somewhat) back to normal...if there is such a thing as normal in the junior high.
If you're wondering, I did end up wearing pj's to school today and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Several other teachers did the same and it was quite comfortable.
We were on super-shortened class schedule today. The classes were only about 25 minutes long, which made teaching kind of difficult. Our Spirit Assembly was after 7th period, for 40 minutes. It was a "pep" assembly so the noise was monumental and for the second day this week I came home with a pounding head ache. I took pictures during the assembly and I was so excited when I figured out the setting on the camera that allows the pictures taken in the gym to actually show up!
Perhaps most have heard, but our network high school, GHS, was in the news today. Apparently a stupid high school teenager decided it'd just be the icing on the Friday cake to send text messages telling people that there was to be a Columbine-like shooting on campus during lunch and not to go to the cafeteria. Of course, the text message spread around quickly, even making it to some of my students this morning. Students and parents were freaked, rightfully so, and it was soon found that it was only a prank. They hyped up security at the school and the day went off without any tragedies.
One of my 3rd period students told me and it made me quite nervous. It was all the buzz all day with students only able to think about the "what if's." All the teachers got the "low-down" today at our after school meeting, where the principal told us the whole story. Of course, this student, and any accomplices, were taken into custody and will surely be dealt with in an appropriate manner.
It's no secret that my eyes are HUGE. My 6th period has also noticed and have come up with a term: Hubertvision. They try to imitate my big eyes and then say, in a superhero-like voice, "Hubertvision!" It's pretty comical. 6th period is loud and sometimes annoying, but they are a fun mix of kids.
I've got loads of papers to grade over the weekend (like always) and also have to prepare a sharing time for Sunday. As much as I'd like to just stay in bed and read all weekend, I've got those details to tend to. I've got a cub scout meeting tonight and then I'll relax a bit to prepare myself for a full and busy day tomorrow. Happy weekend!
