apparently

A list of "apparently-s" today (all that I realized today...apparently):

1. Apparently half the school believes I'm pregnant. Yup. I had a girl ask me this morning during advisory. I asked her where she heard that and she said, "Well, like, it's just been, like, passed around, and stuff, like." Ha. Then, another student asked. Wow. THEN, a teacher asked in the lounge! I had one student after school ask again and then I asked him why he thought that and he said (his exact words), "Well, people in your 1st period say you're mean compared to last year and they just thought...." I'm not pregnant. Enough said.

2. Apparently I could have talked about rainbows and kitties for the past three weeks and my students would have done just as poorly on their external text feature's test today. I mean, really? 4 out of 20. The mind-boggling thing, though, is that these same students who scored poorly on the test did amazingly well in our review game. I'm in a conundrum about the whole thing and have decided to give the external text features a rest for a few weeks and revisit later.

3. Apparently putting a pencil behind my ear makes me look (from a side angle) like I have a pencil coming out of my nose. 6th period got a huge laugh about that today and it made me get the giggles and we all shared a moment. I've resolved to put pencils behind my ear anymore in hopes of preventing such comical outbursts in class that take up a good chunk of time.

4. Apparently I can figure out Adobe PageMaker for the school newspaper and get it printed on real newsprint. I spent oodles of time last year trying to figure it out, but I messed around with PageMaker again today at lunch and suddenly "got it." It may take one more month before we can actually give out a paper, but it will be worth the wait.

5. Apparently even English teachers make spelling mistakes and sometimes students are smart enough to catch them. I spelled the word "field" wrong on the board last week and it took until 6th period for someone to point it out. Again, we had a good laugh. I explained that it was a test of their spelling skills, and, way to go, we have great spellers.

Overall, it was a good Monday, though I'm still a little irked about the test thing today. Tomorrow I'm starting Memoir, Biography, and Autobiography unit, which will probably take the rest of the quarter. Is is crazy to think that a week from tomorrow is mid-term and a week from Wednesday is the 1st Parent Teacher Conference of the year??

And I thought you looked so skinny when you were down here and when I was in Utah in July. Maybe it's too much layering? :)

I am going to the dermatologist tomorrow to have a mole looked at-my regular dr says it looked OK to him but it's bled a couple of times and the edges are all pulled off(gross, huh?) I hate stuff like this.

Love ya
