I survived another busy week. Parent Teacher conferences went pretty well, albeit quite boring, but none the less, they're over for another year.
I had a total of 3 parents tell me that I did not look old enough to be the teacher and one wondered if I really was the teacher. On the second night I decided to wear my glasses to see if that upped the old factor at all. Several students said I didn't look any older and in fact, I looked even younger. I brainstormed with several students on ways to make me look older and here are the suggestions they came up with: dye my hair gray or white; paint wrinkles on my face every morning; and my favorite, wear granny clothes. I know people keep telling me that I'll be grateful that I look so young when I'm older, but it is kind of hard to really trust that parents much older than me can take me seriously!!!
Traveling this week seemed a little better in that I only had to run over 3 kids with my cart. I've also really got the system down of "living out of a cart" and had to make fewer trips back to my desk or closet to get something I'd forgotten, which is "The Worst Problem of Traveling #2."
The principal has put in a request for the janitors to remove my name plate from above my old room door and to put it onto the cart. And thanks to the help of dad Hubert, I am really considering making it a real taco stand and selling food while making my way through the hallway.
I will say this about being a traveling teacher: it really makes the days go by so fast because I'm always on the move, so to speak, and don't really have a chance to be in one place too long. The longest I'm in one place is during my prep/lunch for 1 hour and a half...in my little prison cell.
I gave all of my 8th graders new seats on Wednesday and it's made a big difference in classroom management. It will be good like this for a few weeks and then they'll all start feeling comfortable with their seats and I'll do another switch. I also figured out that it would be easier on me and the students both to just leave one crate of their folders in the respective room that they are in. While my cart has ample room to haul all 4 classes of folders around, it's a pain having the kids wait for me to arrive and crowd around the cart to find their folders. It has made it much easier just to have their folders stay in the room.

It's my day off and I plan to enjoy it thoroughly!!! Happy weekend!

I'm glad to hear that the traveling teacher thing isn't all that bad. The fact that your are adaptable to new things will be a good mark on your teaching and employment record..you know, "the permanent record" :)
Looks like you had a nice time with the Huberts. Nice to see that it's not snowing again.
I had a phone interview yesterday with of all people Geico Insurance( I so despise their ads). This is for a auto claims adjuster and it would take 3 months of training in Tucson, AZ and McLean VA. It sounds like a lot of work and not sure I would be up to it. I won't hear for a few days.
Have a good weekend..I want to talk to you about getting something for me at Ikea but it can wait.
what a cute family! if you were my teacher i would order a taco!
